2024 Last-Minute Year-End Tax-Saving Tips

Maximize your deductions before 2024 ends with these strategies:

General Business Income Tax Deductions

1️⃣ Prepay Expenses Using IRS Safe Harbor:
Prepay up to 12 months of rent, insurance, or lease payments in advance for a deduction this year. For example, paying $36,000 on Dec 31, 2024, covers 2025 rent but gives you a 2024 deduction.

2️⃣ Delay Invoicing:
Postpone billing clients until after Dec 31 to defer income into 2025. Works best for cash-basis taxpayers.

3️⃣ Purchase Office Equipment:
Leverage Section 179 expensing or 60% bonus depreciation for equipment, furniture, and qualifying vehicles bought and used before Dec 31.

4️⃣ Use Credit Cards for Purchases:
For sole proprietors, the expense is deductible when charged. For corporations, ensure reimbursement is processed by Dec 31.

5️⃣ Claim All Deductions:
Document everything to claim potential losses (NOLs), which can offset future income.

6️⃣ Improve Qualified Property:
Upgrade your office or commercial property with Qualified Improvement Property (QIP) to benefit from faster depreciation rules.

Vehicle Purchases

1️⃣ Heavy SUVs & Crossovers:
Buy vehicles over 6,000 lbs GVWR for deductions up to $70,960 (e.g., Section 179 expensing, bonus depreciation).

2️⃣ Pickup Trucks:
Trucks with a 6-foot bed and over 6,000 lbs GVWR qualify for up to 100% write-offs under Section 179.

3️⃣ Electric Vehicles:
Eligible for up to $7,500 in tax credits, in addition to vehicle-specific deductions.

Retirement Deductions

1️⃣ Establish a Plan:
Set up or contribute to retirement plans like SEP IRAs or 401(k)s before Dec 31 to reduce taxable income.
